AMENDMENTS

This chapter was amended in November 2008

Within Dudley a service is provided to Young Carers by the Dudley Young Carers Service managed by NCH. (See Dudley Metropolitan Borough website/Young Carers)

They can be referred by anyone including the Young Carer themselves as long as they meet the criteria for the service then they will be eligible.

Criteria for Receiving a Service

The person receiving the care and providing the care will usually be resident in Dudley Metropolitan Borough (In exceptional circumstances one or the other may live outside the borough).

The child/young person must be taking a role in providing physical/emotional care within the household for a relative, family member or friend on a long-term basis.

Priority will be given to children and young people who are assessed as being the sole carers or who are subject to isolation and/or anxiety and those whose own development in terms of social, educational or whose health is at risk.

They must be less than 18 years of age at the time of the referral although the service may continue to be provided post 18 in special circumstances.

They must want to participate in the project.

They must be a 'Child in Need' as defined by the Children Act 1989.
