2.1.4 Mid-term Change of School for Looked After Children |
See also Change of School Flowchart
- The social worker must contact the Virtual School Administrator to advise of any proposed move of school (a change of school must not happen without notification to the Virtual School)
- The Virtual School Administrator will obtain details from the social worker as required (please ensure all is available when contacted), i.e.:
- Name of young person, date of birth, PIN number
- Carer's name
- Current Address
- Social Worker
- Current school, current school year, date started in current school, date last attended school
- Proposed Name of school for transfer, proposed date of transfer
- Is it a move of care placement?
- Is this a long-term placement?
- Reason for request
- Other schools attended in the last 5 years
- Has PEP been arranged to plan this move? If 'no' please provide date of planned move and send Virtual School a copy of the most recent PEP
- Virtual School will then follow up with the social worker /school if need be.
- Any move will require a PEP to plan the move involving all parties from present and proposed school, the social worker, carer and child/young person (as appropriate).
- If a move is not supported by anyone involved, a PEP meeting will be held to resolve the issue and update the PEP.
- Any approach to the Virtual School by anyone other than the child's social worker will be noted by Virtual School (for follow up as necessary), but referred to the social worker.
- Without this process in place it will not be possible to ensure a smooth transition and that appropriate support is in place, including the provision of a dowry where deemed appropriate.
All moves of school must go through Admissions in any authority. No school should be approached directly.
