4.5.2 Holidays in Term Time for Looked After Children – Procedure

Contents

  1. Introduction
  2. Procedure where Requests are Made

1. Introduction

Dudley's policy is that no child or young person in care should be taken on holiday during term time unless in exceptional circumstances - see Holiday in Term Time for Looked After Children - Policy.

Absence for holiday in term time should also not be considered if the following circumstances apply:

  • Examinations/tests
  • Start of term
  • Start of new school
  • Exceeds 10 school working days
  • Attendance is poor

2. Procedure where Requests are Made

If having considered the above, carers are still intending to take children on holiday during term time then this procedure should be followed.

This applies to whatever the length of the holiday (this should not exceed 10 school days) and wherever the destination  (additional permissions apply re holidays abroad requiring the social worker to obtain the authority of a senior manager)
